Furnace & Ducts

Furnace and Duct Cleaning Division

Most Canadians are aware that there is an issue with the quality of air that we breathe in our homes and offices, but the majority of us do not know how severe the problem really is. Listed below are some facts that reaffirm how much of an issue indoor air quality has become and the impact that it can play on our lives:

  • Most homes generate about 40 pounds of dust per year for every 1.500 square feet of space.
  • About 40,000 dust mites, a common cause of household allergies, can be found in only one ounce of dust.
  • Because they breathe faster than adults, children inhale 50% more air per pound of body weight than adults and are especially sensitive to air quality problems.
  • The EPA ranks indoor air pollution among the top five environmental risks to public health.
  • EPA studies indicate that indoor levels of many pollutants may be 25 times, and occasionally more than 100 times, higher than outdoor levels. In general, indoor air is four to five times more polluted than outdoor air.
  • More than 15 million Americans are estimated to have asthma, including one-in-13 school-age children.
  • In the last 30 years, the number of people with asthma has gone up by almost 60%.
  • “Over 2.6 million Canadians over age 12 and 12% of children under 12 suffer from asthma related breathing problems.” -Source: asthma.ca.

To help combat these air quality issues, it is very important to have your furnace and duct system cleaned every 2-3 years. Cleaning your furnace and duct system regularly will not only improve the indoor air quality in your home and create a healthier indoor environment, but it will also increase the longevity of your heating or cooling system. As well, our technicians will complete a multi point inspection at the time of your cleaning to help foresee any issues that may arise with your system that may inhibit its performance.

WHEN SHOULD YOU GET YOUR FURNACE SYSTEM CLEANED?

  • When excessive dirt and dust is evident in the system.
  • Immediately after renovations, including new construction.
  • When furnaces are replaced.

At Magiclean/Kilroy Cleaning Services we use a powerful Vacuum Truck with an Industrial Air Compressor on Board. Unlike some companies out there, we do not use low power portable units of cheap duct cleaning “Kits” attached to carpet cleaning equipment.

Furnace and Duct Cleaning Process:

Step 1: Vacuum hose is hooked up to the furnace to draw air back to the truck for duct control.

Step 2 Options:

3-4 Hour Job – HI-TECH METHOD – Hot and cold air vents are entirely power brushed then cleaned with the skipper ensuring maximum cleanliness
Don’t be fooled by cheap brush imitations!

2-3 Hour Job – SKIPPER METHOD – The skipper, an air nozzle attached to an air line, is snaked through the vent, blowing our lighter duct deposits fro end to end.

1 Hour Job – BLOW GUN METHOD – An air gun is inserted into the hot and cold vent opening and air is blown down the vent. Dirt deposits remain where air loses it energy.

Step 3: Hot and cold main lines are cleaned with Hi-Tech, Skipper, or Air Gun method. Access panels may be required to access the ducts.

Step 4: Furnace interior and hot water tank burners are cleaned.
